AM urges Cabinet to delay Craigcefnparc School decision | AC yn annog y Cabinet i oedi cyn gwneud penderfyniad am Ysgol Craigcefnparc

Suzy Davies, Welsh Conservative AM for South Wales West, has written to each member of Swansea Council’s Cabinet urging them to delay their decision on whether to close Craigcefnparc School until they have visited the school.

Mrs Davies was invited by the school to meet with them and find see why the school should stay open.

In her letter, sent before the Cabinet met on 21st June 2018, Mrs Davies explained: “One of the most forceful memories of my visit to Craigcefnparc School was its relationship with the community of Craigcefnparc.

“As well as ensuring their children attended after school clubs, parents and families – even from outside the catchment – are proactively involved in looking after the school estate, fundraising and arranging both school and extra-curricular activities which involve the whole village.

She went to write in her letter to the Cabinet “It is a community school in everything but name. The school is a cornerstone of the sustainability of the community itself. Other schools will have argued this case before, but it is of a different order of magnitude.”

“This is why I urge cabinet members to delay a decision, visit the school to see it for yourselves and demand to see a copy of the Community Impact Assessment before making that decision.”

Mrs Davies added: “I will be extremely disappointed if Swansea Council’s Cabinet decide to plough ahead with a decision without visiting Craigcefnparc School.

“Parents, students, and teachers would be right to expect a visit from the Cabinet at the very least before a decision is made.”

Suzy’s letter to Cllr Rob Stewart- Leader of Swansea Council- can be found below.

Copies were also sent to every other member of Swansea Council’s Cabinet.

Mae Suzy Davies, AC y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig dros Orllewin De Cymru, wedi ysgrifennu at bob aelod o Gabinet Cyngor Abertawe i’w hannog i oedi cyn gwneud penderfyniad ynglŷn â chau Ysgol Craigcefnparc tan eu bod nhw wedi ymweld â’r ysgol.

Cafodd Mrs Davies wahoddiad gan yr ysgol i ddod i gyfarfod a gweld pam y dylai’r ysgol aros ar agor.

Yn ei llythyr, a anfonwyd cyn i’r Cabinet gyfarfod ar 21 Mehefin 2018, eglurodd Mrs Davies: “Un o’r pethau sydd wedi aros yn y cof yn dilyn fy ymweliad ag Ysgol Craigcefnparc oedd perthynas yr ysgol â chymuned Craigcefnparc.

“Yn ogystal â sicrhau bod plant yn mynychu clybiau ar ôl ysgol, mae rhieni a theuluoedd – hyd yn oed y rhai sydd y tu allan i ddalgylch yr ysgol – yn weithgar iawn yn gofalu am ystâd yr ysgol, gan godi arian a threfnu gweithgareddau o fewn yr ysgol a gweithgareddau allgyrsiol sy’n cynnwys y pentref cyfan.

Meddai Mrs Davies yn ei llythyr at y Cabinet: “Mae hon yn ysgol gymunedol ymhob ystyr heblaw am ei henw. Mae’r ysgol yn gonglfaen i gynaliadwyedd y gymuned ei hun. Mae ysgolion eraill wedi dadlau hyn o’r blaen, ond yn yr enghraifft yma mae’n digwydd ar raddfa fawr iawn.

“Dyma pam rwy’n annog aelodau’r cabinet i oedi cyn dod i benderfyniad, ac i ymweld â’r ysgol eu hunain a gofyn am gael gweld copi o’r Asesiad Effaith ar Gymuned cyn dod i benderfyniad.”

Ychwanegodd Mrs Davies: “Byddaf yn siomedig iawn os bydd Cabinet Cyngor Abertawe’n penderfynu bwrw ymlaen â’u penderfyniad heb ymweld ag Ysgol Craigcefnparc.

“Y peth lleiaf y gall rhieni, myfyrwyr ac athrawon ei ddisgwyl yw ymweliad gan y Cabinet cyn iddynt ddod i benderfyniad.”

Mae llythyr Suzy i Gyng Rob Stewart, Arweinydd Cyngor Abertawe, yn gallu cael ei gweld yn isod.

Anfonwyd copïau hefyd at bob aelod arall o Gabinet Cyngor Abertawe.
